Highlights

There are many tech products in the market trying to replace your smartphone. Like smartwatches and smart glasses, the Humane AI (Artificial Intelligence) Pin is a wearable device that promises to eliminate smartphones.

The device was first unveiled in November of last year and the brand presented this as a revolutionary device which will replace smartphones. Most wearables in the market currently require a smartphone to function properly but the AI pin has been developed to be used as a stand-alone device.

Many US reviewers have tested the Humane AI Pin and all of them agree that this is a half-baked product. Most of the advertised features don’t work and there are many other issues like the low battery life, overheating, etc.

David Pierce, an Editor at The Verge stated, “As the overall state of AI improves, the AI Pin will probably get better, and I’m bullish on AI’s long-term ability to do a lot of fiddly things on our behalf. But there are too many basic things it can’t do, too many things it doesn’t do well enough, and too many things it does well but only sometimes that I’m hard-pressed to name a single thing it’s genuinely good at. None of this — not the hardware, not the software, not even GPT-4 — is ready yet."

The Pin supports Chat GPT4 and it is supposed to reply to all your queries like, making a call, telling time or any other task for which you need to use your phone, it promises to replace that. However, the AI pin can’t set an Alarm or Timer, it can not add anything to your calendar.

The device has a premium build, it has been made using Aluminium and Gorilla Glass Victus and is very compact. It clips onto your clothes below the collarbone with a magnetic attachment that also charges the device and is provided with the AI Pin. After mounting the device you can start giving it voice commands or you can also use its projector display, which is controlled by gestures.

The Humane AI pin is now available in the US for $699 and the consumers will have a monthly subscription of $24 on T-Mobile USA for calling and internet access. The device relies on Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and 3G for all its cellular needs.  A Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core Processor powers the AI Pin. It has a 13MP wide-angle camera to click pictures and record videos up to 1080p 30fps resolution. It uses a Laser Beam Projection system for display and gesture inputs. The Laser’s projection is in 720p resolution. The device weighs 34 grams and the battery attachment adds another 20 grams. It has a mic and speaker for input and output.

Closing Words

Currently, the product isn’t as good as it is supposed to be, but the concept is amazing. We admire Humane taking this bold first step forward. Humane says this is just the beginning and they’ll make this AI Pin work flawlessly with software updates, we’re really excited about that and wish them all the best. There is also a similar device named 'Rabbit R1.' This one, however, does not promise to replace the smartphones. The Rabbit R1 is not available to purchase yet, plus more details are awaited.
