Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, addressed the Google audience at the Google I/O event 2024 to share exciting updates about Google AI, Gemini, and many other new features. Pichai has used the word ‘AI’ a total of 121 times, just to emphasize the importance of artificial intelligence in world of tech, moving forward.

Key Highlights of the event:

Ask Photo Search:

The event's main highlights include the Ask Photo Search feature. The Google Photos app is already one of the most advanced gallery applications. To make your photos more attractive, they have introduced software-based stabilization, dynamic photos, and HDR photos.

Now that the ‘Ask Photo Search’ feature is on steroids, Google can analyze frequently saved photos, and based on this, you can ask Google to search any particular picture, including of the ones of your car. The company has shown that if you have multiple photos of something, for example, if you have clicked multiple photos of your son in a pool, you can ask Google about swimming progress. At this point, Google will go beyond a simple search, and with the help of Gemini, it can tell you the progress report. The feature will be launched soon.

Gemini 1.5 Pro:

This summer, Google will introduce Gemini 1.5 Pro to all developers. This older version of Gemini with 1 million context windows is now available in 35 languages. These context windows help AI models deliver results; the larger content windows deliver better results. In order to expand the capabilities of Gemini, Google has increased Context Windows to 2 million. In case you couldn't attend any meeting and you got an email with an hour-long recording, if the meeting was on Google Meetings, you can ask Gemini for Highlights, which is currently available in the market.

Notebook:

Notebook is not just a text-processing application; you can use voice commands to communicate with it. The new interface has two blocks: the left one is for input, and the right one will show you a 3D icon that moves during audio conversations.

You can have a conversation with Notebook; you can ask it to make topics easy with good examples (explain the law of physical fitness with a basketball example).

Gemini 1.5 Flash:

It is a lighter model of Gemini 1.5 Pro with up to 1 million tokens in Google AI Studio. Google has built this model for high-frequency tasks where response time matters the most. It is also cost-efficient.

Project Astra:

Go beyond search. In a showcase video, Google has shown that you can now identify the parts of any object with this AI project. You can click on a photo of the speaker, and it will tell you what is its proper usage and functionality. It can tell you the actual location by analysing photos of any place. It can also identify codes and answer scientifically.

Not only this, but Project Astra is capable of solving tough physics and maths problems.

AI with Android: Google did not share much information about Android plans, but the all-new Gemini Nano has entered the software department to support Android. It has multimodal capabilities, meaning it can work in sight, video, and audio.

The most revolutionary feature Google has introduced to the Gemini Nano is that now it can sense scam call conversations during a call and send you an alert.

The company is also giving overlay capacity to Gemini Nano; now you can use it with other apps and process other information as well. You can use it in Gmail to summarise and understand mail information in a much better and faster way.

This launch event tells unlimited possibilities about the future, AI capabilities, and AI-human relations.
