By now, even a 5-year-old knows that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is most likely to launch by the end of July 2025. Samsung’s annual foldable release schedule is just as predictable as… Apple’s! An early onslaught of leaks gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect – a near-identical clone of the existing Galaxy Z Flip 6.

However, there has been an update to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 leak belt and it is a rather good one – one that could send shockwaves down the entire product teams at Motorola, Oppo and Vivo. It seems that Samsung has given in to the high demands of the public and created a flip phone that could set the benchmark high. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 could make itself more useful with a major tweak to its design and considering the software prowess, it could make a huge difference.

What do the new Flip 7 leaks say?

Previously, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 leaks had painted a phone that’s basically a mildly upgraded version of the older Flip 6. Said to rely on Samsung’s Exynos equivalent of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the Flip 7 is expected to offer tighter integration with the Galaxy AI suite. A superior integration is also expected to allow for better battery stamina performance compared to the rest.

However, the compact cover display is what stirred a lot of controversy within the community of technology enthusiasts. The compact 3.4-inch panel was deemed too cramped to run any apps or games with ease. Samsung is now rumoured to come up with a bigger cover display – something akin to the Motorola Razr’s cover screen implementation.

The revised CAD renders now show a large edge-to-edge cover display of an unspecified dimension, engulfing the main cameras. The bezels are as slim as the ones you find on Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 flagships. Although the leaked data does not present any information about the refresh rate of the panel, we wonder if a 60Hz panel would affect the end user experience.

However, a larger cover screen doesn’t necessarily equate to a superior flip phone experience. Consider the Motorola Razr 50 as an example, a phone we reviewed a few months ago. Despite having an edge-to-edge cover screen, the Razr 50’s cover display essentially ran a compromised version of Android’s interface. It looked good on paper but in reality, the implementation was far from ideal – notifications were obstructed and app interfaces were highly compromised.

That’s where Samsung shines. Despite having a smaller cover screen, the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s cover screen is efficient is howing notifications and running essential apps in an efficient manner. With the Flip 7’s larger cover screen, we only expect Samsung’s software interface designers to weave magic and show Motorola how its done.
