Having made its debut at CES 2025, Qualcomm has now launched the Snapdragon X processor for next-gen laptops in India. Placed below the premium Snapdragon X Elite and the mid-tier Snapdragon X Plus, this new processor is Copilot+ ready and offers 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI performance.

On paper, that makes it faster than Apple's latest 3nm-based M4 chip found on the base-level MacBook Pro! With the right amount of optimisation, laptops with this chipset should be incredibly fast at basic processing!

Hence, it is no wonder that a number of laptop makers have already announced upcoming products with this cutting-edge chip. There's going to be a lot of bloodbath in the laptop market this year and Intel isn't the name responsible for it!

Snapdragon X for Windows laptops revealed

The Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) is an octa-core processor based on Qualcomm's Oryon cores with a top clock speed of 3.0GHz. Compared to the X Elite, which tops out at 3.8GHz, and the X Plus at 3.4GHz, Qualcomm is marketing this chip as an alternative to the Intel Core 5 120U. Based on TSMC's 4nm N4 process node, it accommodates up to 64GB LPDDR5x RAM with a bandwidth of 135GB/s and a cache of 30MB. The Adreno GPU supports up to three external displays at 4K 60Hz.

With a Hexagon NPU, the Snapdragon X achieves 45 TOPS of AI performance, making it eligible for Microsoft Copilot+ certification for AI features on Windows 11. Other features include instant wake, power-sipping standby, Snapdragon Sound, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and USB-C 4.0 support.

In essence, the Snapdragon X is kind of like Intel's Core i5 processor -- one that offers a balance of power, efficiency and economics.

Asus is ready with Snapdragon X laptops

The Asus Vivobook 16 and Zenbook A14 are the first laptops in India to come with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X processor. The prices for both laptops begin at INR 65,990 and you can pre-book either of them, if you fancy one.

Being an AI-capable, energy-efficient, and smoothly connected device, the Snapdragon X promises to offer a serious rival to laptops running on Intel and AMD chips. Several more brands are planning to launch Snapdragon X-enabled laptops soon, adding more options to consumers.
