Asus is a very well-known brand for its high-performance laptops and gaming smartphones. It launches its gaming gadgets under ROG (Republic of Gamers) tags. In 2023, Asus launched ROG Ally to target gamers, but due to its high price, it didn't grab the attention of many buyers. Recently, it got a massive price drop of Rs 25000; now it is available for Rs 49999, and the device is trending again.

What is Asus ROG Ally?

This handheld compact gaming computer based on the Windows 11 operating system, which runs on the AMD Zen 4 chipset.

Currently, it is available in two categories: one with an AMD Ryzen Z1 processor, and the premium processor, a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

Targeted Audience: It runs on Windows 11, and it has the capability of running high-end games. So, it targets hardcore gamers who want high-performance compact devices but, at the same time, don’t want to use smartphones or Android-based gaming devices due to limitations. (Android devices have a limited number of games in comparison to Windows.)

Display:

Both ROG Ally models come with a 7-inch Full HD 120Hz IPS display in a 16:9 ratio (500 nits brightness), which is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The screen supports a 10-point multitouch with a response time of 7 milliseconds.

Performance:

The Asus Ally base version runs on an AMD Ryzen Z1 processor, while the premium version runs on a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.

Both chipsets are based on a 4 nm architecture; Z1 has a total of 6 cores, while the Z1 Extreme has a total of 8 cores.

Both use AMD Radeon Graphics to process graphic-centric tasks, but the base version is clocked at 2.5 GHz and the premium version is clocked at 2.7 GHz.

Other than this, everything is similar. Both models have 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD to store your files.

Ports: Both models have 3 ports in total: one is to connect 3.5mm jack earphones or headphones, and another is a Type-C port to charge the device and connect other storage devices or adapters. It also has the option to insert an SD card.

Control Home and Audio: ROG Ally is a proper gaming device. It has control buttons on the left and right sides. It has A, B, and Y buttons, a D-pad, L and R triggers, etc.

You get HD haptics to feel the effects of games, and it also has a 6-axis gyro.

Audio is one of the most important things in games, so it supports AI noise cancellation, a built-in array microphone, and a 2-speaker system with smart amplifier technology.

Battery backup: It has a 40-watt, 4-cell Li-ion battery. The gadget supports a Type-C charger with a 65-watt AC adapter and a 20-watt DC output.

Build and Design: ROG devices are always bulky due to their strong batteries, important ports, and in-built controllers. The device is 11.1 mm thick and 608 grams heavy. You can secure your data by using a fingerprint scanner.
