Apple officially introduced iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, unveiling major visual and functional updates alongside the deep integration of Apple Intelligence—its proprietary AI framework. These new operating systems aim to deliver a more immersive, productive, and intuitive user experience across both iPhones and iPads.

Liquid Glass Brings New Changes

One of the most striking changes is the new design language, dubbed the “Liquid Glass” interface. This visual overhaul includes translucent layers, refined animations, and dynamic textures across key UI elements such as the Lock Screen, Control Centre, and app icons. The interface is designed to offer a more fluid and modern aesthetic, making interactions appear smoother and more visually engaging.

Apple Intelligence Galore

A central focus of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 is the integration of Apple Intelligence. This AI-powered system adds intelligent features across native apps like Safari, Notes, and Mail. Users can now access tools for summarizing content, generating context-aware suggestions, and receiving proactive assistant support within the OS. This shift places Apple’s AI capabilities directly into everyday workflows, streamlining tasks and enhancing personalization.

On iPads, iPadOS 26 brings notable productivity upgrades. Users now have resizable app windows, offering greater control over multitasking. Enhanced Stage Manager features provide more flexible window arrangements and smoother app interactions, improving the overall experience of working across multiple apps simultaneously.

Eligible Devices For iOS 26, iPadOS 26

In terms of compatibility, iOS 26 supports iPhone models starting from the iPhone 12 and newer. This includes the iPhone SE (3rd generation), as well as all models in the iPhone 13, 14, and 15 series. Devices like the iPhone 11 and earlier have been dropped from the compatibility list. iPadOS 26 is available for a broad range of iPads, including the iPad Pro (M4 and 12.9” 3rd gen or later, 11” 1st gen or later), iPad Air (M2 and 3rd gen or later), iPad mini (A17 Pro and 5th gen or later), and iPad (A16 and 8th gen or later). The iPad 7th generation is no longer supported.

The developer beta for both iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 began rolling out on June 9, 2025. Apple has also confirmed that the public beta will be available in July via the Apple Beta Software Program. The final, stable release of both operating systems is expected globally in fall 2025, likely aligning with the launch of the iPhone 16 series.
