Apple Foldable
Apple is preparing for a major revamp of its product portfolio by 2027, defined by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman as a "product renaissance." This strategic shift is intended to offset the perception of stagnation that has pervaded recent Apple product launches and will bring innovations in iPhone, AI, wearables, and robotics.
Foldable iPhone and iPhone 20th Anniversary Edition
Taking the lead is Apple's much-awaited foldable iPhone, set to be released in late 2026 together with the iPhone 18 series. Unlike current foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Apple's foldable phone is to have a crease-free screen and a robust titanium frame, making it a premium product. The foldable is most likely to sport advanced display technology and a novel form factor that sets it apart from the other players in the market.
After the foldable launch, Apple will introduce a 20th Anniversary iPhone in 2027, reportedly a major redesign. As reported by Gurman, the anniversary iPhone will be a largely glass, curved body with no display cutouts, presumably marking the end of the notch and even the under-display camera and Face ID sensors.
AI-Powered Wearables and Glasses
Apple is spending big on AI, and it will show up in its future hardware based on Apple Intelligence. Among the most anticipated additions is a fresh set of AI-based smart glasses, which are being worked on to compete with Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. The glasses will be fitted with cameras, microphones, and speakers, allowing contextual awareness and synching with Apple's Visual Intelligence technology.
Apple will also extend AI integration to its current wearables. New AirPods and Apple Watch with cameras are in the pipeline, which will allow real-time visual recognition and interaction using AI. This will further integrate Apple Intelligence into everyday use cases.
Siri and AI Infrastructure Overhaul
Siri, Apple’s digital assistant, is also set for a dramatic transformation. By 2027, Siri will be powered by large language models (LLMs) and run on Apple’s in-house AI server chips, enabling more natural, conversational interactions. This upgrade is expected to launch with iOS 20, following a delay from the originally planned iOS 19 release. Siri’s improvements will aim to make it a more competent and context-aware assistant across all Apple platforms.
Robotics and Smart Home Expansion
Apple is also moving into consumer robotics. The first such product will be a table robot assistant with a robotic arm and an AI personality that will engage users more like a human. It will likely be deeply integrated with a new, diminutive Apple smart home hub, which was delayed but is a key to Apple's overall smart home strategy.
Beyond 2027
Looking further down the road, Apple is said to be developing a hybrid device that takes aspects of a foldable iPad and a touchscreen Mac. But this ambitious device won't hit the market until at least 2028.
