Airtel and Jio, two of the leading telecom operators in India, have taken a significant step by increasing their prepaid and postpaid plan tariffs. The revised structures are going to have a direct impact on millions of customers nationwide.
However, both companies aim to maintain the same benefits, comprising unlimited calling, data, and SMS services. Both, Airtel and Jio have hiked the tariff prices by up to 25 per cent that will be applicable from July 3, 2024, onwards.
That said, below is the comparison of new prepaid and postpaid tariff plans from Jio and Airtel, and a comparison of both.
Airtel Recharge Plans 2024: New vs Old
The minimum prepaid recharge plan of Airtel, that used to cost Rs 179 per month, is now priced at Rs 199. Similarly, the most popular Rs 479 prepaid recharge plan is now revised to Rs 579.
The cheapest Airtel Rs 199 prepaid plan comprises 2GB of data, unlimited calling and 100 SMS/day, and have a validity of 28 days. In parallel, the Rs 479 prepaid plan offers 1.5GB per day, unlimited calling and 100 SMS/day, with a validity of 56 days.
The service provider has also hiked the price of its annual plan (valid for 365 days) from Rs 2999 to Rs 3599. This plan offers 2GB data/day, unlimited calling and 100SMS/day.
Airtel will now provide free unlimited 5G to only those users who opt for minimum 2GB/day prepaid plan or more.
Jio Recharge Plans 2024: Old vs New
Reliance Jio was the first to take the lead in the price hike. Jio's cheapest prepaid plan, which was priced at Rs 155 per month with data of 2GB per day will now cost you Rs 189 per month.
Jio’s most popular plans, which were priced at Rs 239 (valid for 28 days) and Rs 666 (valid for 84 days) will now carry a price tag of Rs 299 and Rs 799, respectively.
Last but not least, Jio will also provide unlimited 5G to those Jio users who opt for a prepaid plan with 2GB/day or extra data.
Overall, the Jio plans with a longer validity observed the highest price hike.
Airtel vs Jio: New Tariffs
As mentioned earlier, the revised tariff plans will be applicable from July 3, 2024, while the benefits will be kept as is. The reason behind this step by these Indian telecom companies is to increase their Average Revenue per User (ARPU).
In addition, the new Airtel tariff plans will be applied to almost all prepaid and some postpaid plans. Jio, on the other hand, says that the hiked prices won’t impact the existing Jio users, including the JioPhone and JioBharat users.

As for AI technology, Jio has introduced two new apps in its portfolio. The first is JioTranslate app, an AI-powered language translator that is capable of translating voice calls, voice messages, and text and images. The JioTranslate app is priced at Rs 99/month.
The other app introduced by Jio is called JioSafe. This is a Quantum-secured software for calling, messaging, and file transfer, to name a few. The JioSafe app is priced at Rs 199/month.
Jio company states that both applications, worth Rs 298/month, can be accessed for free for 1 year.
