Samsung’s next flip phone could get a major upgrade under the hood. After recently announcing the Exynos 2600, the company’s most advanced mobile processor yet, new reports suggest this chipset may power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Why Samsung may use its own chip again
According to a report from South Korean publication The Bell, Samsung is seriously considering using the Exynos 2600 in its next flip style foldable. If everything goes according to plan and no technical issues come up, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to launch with this in-house processor. This would continue the same approach Samsung took with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which also runs on an Exynos chip.
One of the key reasons behind this decision seems to be cost control. With memory prices going up globally, using its own processor helps Samsung keep overall component costs in check. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is currently expected to launch around July 2026, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
What makes the Exynos 2600 special
The Exynos 2600 is a big milestone for Samsung. It is the world’s first smartphone chip built on a 2nm manufacturing process, using next generation Gate-All-Around technology. In simple terms, this allows better performance and efficiency compared to older chip designs.
The processor is said to feature a powerful CPU setup, led by a high performance core running at up to 3.8GHz, supported by multiple performance and efficiency cores for balanced everyday use. On the graphics side, it comes with a new Xclipse 960 GPU, designed to handle demanding visuals more smoothly.
AI performance is another major focus. The chip includes a strong neural processing unit aimed at faster on-device AI tasks. It also supports high resolution displays up to 4K with refresh rates of up to 120Hz, which fits well with a premium foldable phone.
For cameras, the Exynos 2600 is built to handle advanced photography. It supports very high resolution sensors, including single cameras up to 320 megapixels, or dual camera setups for more flexible shooting.
If these plans hold up, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could end up being one of Samsung’s most technically advanced foldables yet, combining a compact design with cutting-edge silicon developed entirely in-house.
