Bid adieu to the heavy camera, gimbal, mic, and extra battery setup. DJI has finally launched the third version of the Osmo Pocket series, DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It has a 1-inch large sensor, which is much larger than the 1/1.7-inch sensor on the DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and the 1/1.56'' on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But should you buy this one? Should you go for a proper camera? Or maybe you should ditch both if you already have the most premium iPhone 15 Pro Max? Let’s figure it out:
Sensor
The Pocket 3 has a 1-inch CMOS sensor, and it can shoot 4K videos up to 60 fps and slow-motion videos at 120 fps, which can reduce post-production.
You have seen top vloggers use heavy setups to shoot action shots; they need to use additional gimbals for action shots, but this one has everything, including enhanced image stabilization. This improved sensor is better for late-night shots.
Screen
However, it’s not the first product of this type. DJI has launched two products before, but this one has a 2-inch large screen and you can change the orientation from landscape to portrait for better viewing angles.
The new screen makes the camera as useful as action cameras. Another cool trend is that you can sync the control menu (wired) of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 with your smartphone and control all the features.
Battery
This on-the-go vlogging gadget has a 1300 mAh battery, which can shoot up to 116 minutes at 4K/60fps and whooping 166 minutes at 1080p/24fps. I guess these numbers are enough to make a cinematic travel film.
The Osmo Pocket 3 also benefits from a fast-charger, as it can replenish from 0% to an 80% charge within 16 minutes and 100% in 32 minutes. In addition, the DJI 65W PD charger is sold separately.
Video and Photo Quality
This is a camera that is mounted on a 3-axis mini gimbal. The resolution of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is quite strong; you can go up to 4K at 60 frames per second and 120 frames per second. In fact, it can go as low as 24 frames per second for cinematic looks. It supports HDR videos for enhanced dynamic range and improved contrast.
Just like professional cameras, this mini camera can record 10-bit D-Log and 10-bit HLG.
As a creator, we mostly face problems with the tracking focus. I have tested Autotrack 6.0, which works perfectly on my dog and is equally good with human subjects. In other words, this DJI Osmo Pocket 3 won't make you complain, as far as tracking focus is concerned.
Accessories for Creators
If you plan to buy a reliable vlogging handheld camera with already-added original accessories, you can choose the DJI Creators Edition. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creators Edition comes with a type-C PD charging cable, a protective cover, a wrist strap, a handle thread, a wide-angle lens, a Mic 2 transmitter, a Mic 2 windshield, a Mic 2 clip magnet, a battery handle, and one mini tripod.
