In a major move for tech users across India, OpenAI has just pulled the plug on pricing for its ChatGPT Go subscription. Starting today, November 4, anyone in the country can sign up for the service for one full year, completely free.
It’s a significant offer, as the plan normally sets users back ₹399 every month. That’s an annual savings of nearly ₹4,800, making some of OpenAI’s best features suddenly available to millions.
What’s Included in the Free Offer?
So, what exactly is ChatGPT Go? Think of it as the most accessible ticket to OpenAI’s latest and supposedly smartest model, GPT-5. The free plan unlocks several powerful features that standard free users don’t get.
You get extended message limits, meaning you can have much longer, more detailed chats with the AI. It also boosts creative and professional work by letting you perform file analysis and use Advanced data tools. For those who need to crunch numbers or visualize data, the plan even includes Python-based features.
OpenAI also highlights the Personalised memory function. This helps the AI remember what you’ve talked about in previous conversations, which should lead to much more relevant and context-aware answers over time.
How to Claim Your Free Year
Getting the free subscription sounds straightforward. Users just need their phone or laptop and the ChatGPT app or website.
- Log in to your account.
- Head to your profile icon and find the “Upgrade your plan” button (it might also be in Settings under Subscription).
- Select the ChatGPT Go option.
- Follow the prompts to activate it. The upgrade should apply to your account instantly.
Knowing the Limitations
While it’s a great deal, it’s important to know what you don’t get. This offer won’t include API access; that remains a separate, pay-as-you-go service for developers.
The plan also cuts access to some of OpenAI’s other well-known models, like GPT-4o and GPT-4 Turbo. Features reserved for the most expensive plans, like the impressive video-generation tool Sora and third-party connectors, are also off the table.
One other quirk: the GPT-5 Thinking mode is automatic. It’s built-in to improve the AI’s reasoning, but users can’t manually tweak or extend it.
