Volkswagen India’s CEO, Ashish Gupta, recently hinted about the potential revival of the Polo at the VW Annual Brand Conference 2024. The German carmaker showcased the GT Plus Sport and GT Line iterations of the VW Taigun and Virtus, and unveiled their electric vehicle, the Volkswagen ID.4.
It was 2022 when Volkswagen discontinued the Polo from the Indian hatchback segment. Its sales started dwindling because the enthusiasts and regular patrons wanted a change, which is why it was de-listed from the website. However, the Volkswagen Polo's initial years left a soft corner among Indian patrons. That said, the ‘Polo’ moniker in a new form may achieve good numbers, provided the German carmaker cracks the market code of the ever-evolving Indian buyers as they did by bringing the MQB-A0-IN-based vehicles.
But, while hinting about the potential revival of the VW Polo, Ashish Gupta, clarified that there are no immediate plans at present, albeit acknowledged the comeback of India’s beloved Volkswagen car.
As we speak about the current generation of the Volkswagen Polo, it exceeds the sub-four-metre mark, measuring 4.053 metres. For your reference, a carmaker receives tax benefits for producing a sub-four-metre vehicle in India, making the car cheaper.
Lastly, as per sources, Volkswagen India showed disinterest towards the arrival of the non-GTI version. However, with the acknowledgement of the potential revival of the VW Polo, this news has left enthusiasts eagerly anticipating further developments regarding the beloved German vehicle.
