Volkswagen launched a 5-seater SUV at the Beijing Motor Show, the vehicle will be known as the Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro in China. The seven-seater variant of this car will be making its India debut later this year. The SUV will most probably be known as the Volkswagen Tayron in other markets except China.
Volkswagen Tayron: Build and Design
The SUV looks in line with modern Volkswagen SUVs and has a muscular and bold appearance. The Volkswagen Tyron is, 4355mm long, 1859mm wide, and 1682mm tall. These dimensions are 197mm longer, 17mm wider and 43mm taller and the wheelbase too is 111mm longer than the Volkswagen Tiguan which is currently on sale in India. The SUV is based on Volkswagen’s new MQB EVO platform which is shared with its cousin sister, the Skoda Kodiaq.
The front and rear bumpers of the car have a piano black finish in contrast to the body colour, making the SUV look modern and stylish. The Tyron gets LED projector headlamps along with DRLs and it has a connected LED tail lamp which has almost become a tradition for cars in 2024.
Volkswagen Tayron: Interior and Features
Tayron’s interior looks similar to the global model of the Tiguan. There are three screens and they run on Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software. Two are infotainment screens, one is mounted centrally on the dashboard and the other is in front of the co-driver seat. The third screen is the instrumentation unit mounted in front of the driver. Other highlighting features of the cabin include a wireless changing pad, rotary dial as drive selector, 10-point massaging front ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, ADAS, HUD, and more.
Volkswagen Tayron: Powertrain Options
Propelling the Chinese version of the Tayron SUV (Tiguan L Pro) is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine (TSI) in two different states of tune. The first engine option produces 184hp and 320Nm, whereas the high-powered variant produces 217hp and 350Nm. This powerhouse is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and gets an optional AWD variant. When launched outside China, the vehicle may get alternate drivetrain options such as a 1.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid with a 19.7kWh battery pack and a 2.0-litre diesel unit.
Volkswagen Tayron: Expected Launch Date and Rivals
The SUV is expected to arrive in India by next year (2025), via the CKD route. Once launched, the Tayron will lock horns with SUVs, such as the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, and MG Gloster, to name a few.
