TVS has finally given a much-needed update to their top-selling product the TVS Jupiter. It competes directly with the Honda Activa, a pioneer in this segment, and this creates a little confusion among entry-level scooter buyers.
That’s why we will be comparing the specifications of these two scooters today so that you can make your buying decisions easily.
Performance
TVS Jupiter 110 has a 113.3cc air-cooled engine which churns out 8.02hp and 9.2Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Honda Activa 110 has a 109.5cc engine which churns out 7.84hp and 8.9Nm of Torque.
As it's clearly evident, the Jupiter scooter has a slight edge in terms of performance figures albeit the difference is not very much. But, it may create a marginal difference in day-to-day riding and quick city overtakes.
Appearance
Both the scooters follow a conventional design language with simple, clean and elegant looks. In our opinion, both are at par, as far as styling and attraction go. However, that's debatable, as it all boils down to one's liking.
Suspension, Braking and Wheels
For those unaware, the TVS Jupiter introduced the front telescopic forks in this segment since its inception. And, it continues to get telescopic forks at the front and a rear mono-shock suspension.
This time, the Honda Activa also gets telescopic forks at the front and a rear mono-shock.
Therefore, both scooters have an identical suspension setup
The TVS Jupiter runs on 12-inch wheels on both ends, whereas the Honda Activa has a 12-inch front and a 10-inch rear wheel setup.
Both the scooters offer drum brakes on either side for stopping. In contrast, the Jupiter also offers an optional front disc setup, which is a plus point.
Pricing and Conclusion
The TVS Jupiter starts from Rs 73,700, whereas the Honda Activa starts from Rs 76,684. Both are ex-showroom figures.
The top-end variant of the Jupiter is priced a little higher than the Activa's, but the former justifies its higher price, thanks to the inclusion of a front disc brake, which is missing on the Activa.
Both scooters are almost identical, as far as the appearance and engine go. But weighing the overall offerings, we feel that the Jupiter has en edge.
But we recommend you to do take test rides of these two scooters so that you can tick your preferences' boxes accordingly.
