Triumph India has launched an affordable version of the Speed 400 in the Indian market, dubbed the Speed T4, at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 2.17 lakh. This new motorcycle is an affordable version of the existing Speed 400 which has also been updated along with the new addition.
Triumph Speed T4
Triumph Speed T4 can be called a downscaled version of the Speed 400. The motorcycle looks very similar to the Speed 400, but a closer look reveals significant differences between the two. For example, the Speed T4 is equipped with conventional right-side up front forks, whereas the Speed 400 gets up-side down forks.
The front braking setup is inferior on the Speed T4 compared to the Speed 400, as it now gets an axle-mounted calliper to keep the pricing in check. The motorcycle gets the same engine as the Speed 400, but it has been tuned differently on this machine to suit its characteristics.
It produces 31hp and 36Nm on the Speed T4, whereas the Speed 400 churns out 40hp and 37.5Nm. The torque on this new machine is available at low RPMs and it also gets a different sprocket setup to enhance its low-end performance.
Updated Triumph Speed 400
The Triumph Speed 400 made its India debut last year and the motorcycle has become a successful product for the brand in the country. That’s why they have given some minor updates to make it even more compelling. The updated Speed 400 has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.40 lakh.
It is Rs 6,000 more expensive than the outgoing version. However, the increase has been justified by the addition of adjustable levers, new colour options, a new seat and the durable Apollo Vredestein tyres.
Conclusion
The Speed T4 is Rs 23,000 cheaper than the updated Speed 400. In our opinion, it is a good option for anyone looking to buy an entry-level Triumph. It does lose out on some top-end performance and a few features when compared to the Speed 400.
However, due to the different tuning of the engine, the Speed T4 should offer much better low-end performance compared to the Speed 400, which makes it an ideal city commuter. If you are the type of person who loves riding hard and fast then the Speed 400 should be your bet.
