Audi has taken out the new 3rd-generation A5 - globally unveiled in fastback and estate versions. The company has clearly stated that no more cabriolets and coupes will be offered on the new generation Audi A5. It will only retain the fastback and estate configurations.
The new A5 is a replacement for the A4 lineup. This call is part of Audi’s new naming strategy. That said, the German luxury car manufacturer will keep odd numbers for conventional engines and even numbers for their electric vehicles.
Notably, the new Audi A5 is the first model to have Audi’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as its underpinning. It is worth noting that this new platform is not related to the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that underpins the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan EV.
As for pre-bookings, the customers can make reservations from this month. This iteration will first arrive in Germany, followed by other countries in November. In Europe, the base-spec of the A5 will be priced at EUR 45,200 (approx Rs 41.27 lakh).
However, the India launch is expected to take place in 2025.
2024 Audi A5: Design
The third-generation Audi A5 is now sleeker, cleaner and sharper than before. It looks more sportier and opulent, thanks to the low-slung design, bigger and sportier alloy wheels, and a stretched wheelbase. The front end incorporates a new honeycomb grille, flanked by slim LED headlights.
The side profile also looks bold, thanks to pronounced fender and should lines. Another noticeable addition is the sunken door handles, making it more sleeker.
The rear end, on the other hand, has a gloss-black diffuser, a boot-lid spoiler, rectangular exhaust tips, silver inserts, and a sculpted bumper.
Lastly, the front and rear ends have 3D LED lights with Audi’s signature matrix OLED and distinctive styling elements.
2024 Audi A5: Interior and Features
On the features front, the Audi Q6 e-tron and the new A5 are similar. However, the latter offering has a dual-screen display (Audi MMI), which includes an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen MMI infotainment unit. The co-driver also gets a dedicated 10.9-inch MMI display.
Features onboard include multi-colour ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats with memory functions, a multi-zone auto HVAC, a powered tailgate, connected car technology, drive modes, and a Bang and Olufsen audio system, to name a few.
For safety, this vehicle will offer ADAS, multiple airbags, ESC, lane-keep assist, a 360-degree camera, traction control, adaptive cruise control, adaptive high beam, active cornering lights, etc.
2024 Audi A5: Powertrains
Initially, Audi will offer a combustion engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system (MHEV), followed by a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, which will join the lineup in 2025. The combustion engine versions will be available in turbocharged- petrol and diesel.
The company will offer the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with different power figures - 150bhp and 204bhp. The latter, a more powerful version, will get an optional Quattro AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
The diesel version will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which churns out 204bhp, alongside Audi’s new MHEV Plus system.
The top-spec, Audi S5, will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with an MHEV Plus setup that will produce 367bhp.
A plug-in hybrid version will also join the A5 lineup in the international markets in 2025.
2024 Audi A5: India Arrival
As mentioned earlier, the new Audi A5 (third-gen) will initially go on sale in Europe in November 2024. And, from next year onwards, the India launch is expected.
Since it’s a replacement for the Audi A4, which is currently priced between Rs 46.02 lakh and Rs 54.58 lakh (ex-showroom), the Audi A5 will be priced similar to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, among others.
