The Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors recently unveiled one of the most anticipated vehicles, the Tata Curvv Coupe SUV. This vehicle will be offered in both gasoline and electric versions.

For those unfamiliar, the company will first declare the prices of the EV spec, on August 7, 2024, followed by the price list of the combustion engine spec sometime later.

Once launched, it will directly rival the Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV. However, the similarly priced vehicles will include the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, to name a few.

Design

In the design department, the Tata Curvv has an up-market appearance, which looks elegant yet imposing. The front end of this vehicle is significantly similar to the 2024 Nexon, plus its front charging flap is reminiscent of the Punch EV.

More so, the internal combustion engine (ICE) iteration of the Curvv SUV will have an opened grille in black colour, while the electric version will have a closed and body-coloured grille.

The side profile will be the same. Speaking of which, both versions will run on lightweight aerodynamic alloy wheels. And, both will incorporate flush door handles.

As for the rear end, this part is the most striking feature, as it has a steep roofline, which houses a width-spanning LED rear light. Additionally, this vehicle also hosts a rear roof-mounted spoiler and a shark-fin antenna.

Interior

The images/videos of the Curvv’s interior remain to be seen, but it is speculated that this vehicle will have a Nexon-inspired dashboard design. It is likely to get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

Other expected features comprise a sunroof, ventilated front seats, a cooled glove box, umbrella holders, and a new-age two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo.

The Curvv is also expected to offer multiple interior colour options.

As for safety, this vehicle is deemed to have a 360-degree camera, cruise control, ADAS, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, hill-assist, six airbags, and hill-hold control, among others.

Specifications

The manufacturer hasn’t revealed the specifications of the Tata Curvv. However, several industry reports speculate that this vehicle will have two powertrain options: a 1.2-litre GDi turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel.

The latter unit produces 113bhp and 260Nm of peak power, while the former is tuned to produce 123bhp and 225Nm of peak torque.

Further, both engines are likely to have a standard six-speed manual and an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

In contrast, the Curvv EV is expected to offer variants of two types: Standard Range and Long Range. Technical details remain unknown, but it should be safe to assume that the company might claim a 500km+ range on a single charge.

Market Positioning

The non-electric version of the Tata Curvv is expected to carry a starting price of Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom), while the entry-level variant of the electric version will be pricier.

Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, etc., will rival the ICE version of the Tata Curvv. In contrast, the Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti Suzuki eVX, and the MG ZS EV will rival the Tata Curvv EV.
