Kerala’s Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has made a new law which forbids talking to the pillion while riding a bike or any two-wheeler. The law has been made considering all the mishappenings because of the rider’s divided attention between the road and the pillion while riding and talking, simultaneously.

Kerala's New Rule's Highlights

All the RTOs (Regional Transport Offices) have been instructed by Kerala's Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to implement this new rule immediately. The Joint Transport Commissioner has announced strict action against the violators. This shows that the MVD is very serious about this issue, therefore they want to take the situation under control and prevent these mishappenings.

Riding a motorcycle or any vehicle requires full attention and focus. Whereas talking to the pillion, especially on two-wheelers, is a big distraction that can cause any unfortunate mishap. This new rule allows riders to stay focused on the road and eliminate any kind of risk while riding.

The department plans to impose heavy penalties for violators. Regular checks will be done by RTO officials to make sure that riders are following the rules religiously. They also plan to educate people, about how following this rule is beneficial for them, as well as others on the road.

This new rule may seem a little uncomfortable to follow initially, but it is a stepping stone towards road safety. Two-wheelers are one of the most vulnerable modes of transportation and there shouldn't be any carelessness while riding these.
