If you take out your bike or car regularly in this scorching heat, you should take good care of yourself and your vehicle. This heatwave causes many unfortunate fatalities every year. We can take preventive measures to save ourselves from unfortunate situations. So, here are some summer safety tips for bikers and drivers.

Important Daily Checks

First of all, which is the most important thing, is getting regular servicing done of your vehicle. Regular servicing can help your vehicle have all necessary things checked, such as engine oil level, coolant level, brake fluids, transmission fluids, windshield washer, brake pads, tyres, and balance and alignment, to name a few.

At the end of the day, if you take care of your vehicle, the vehicle will take care of you.

Now, let's consider that you regularly get the vehicle servicing done, and you don't know what things to check before starting your journey, so don't worry we are here to help you.

So, before you start your journey, you should check the tyre pressure of your vehicle. In modern two- and four-wheelers, there is a tyre pressure monitoring system. In addition, try getting the Nitrogen filled in your tyres. In India, some fuel stations give Nitrogen air for free and some charge Rs 20 per tyre.

Nitrogen-filled tyres boast several benefits, and one of them is that you don't have to worry about frequent air top-ups. They last for a month, and that too, only down by two or three points.

Further, the rider or driver should always have a close look at the engine temperature gauge, as the bar shouldn't go beyond half.

The Most Important Thing

The number one priority is your health. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the journey with healthy fluids. Water should be your best friend while you are out in the sun. And, one should take breaks, as and when required.

Additionally, we would recommend keeping an electrolyte-friendly beverage, like authentic ORS (they have 'based on WHO formula' labelled), alongside a bottle of water and some snacks.

It is also worth noting that bikers shouldn’t drink water under the sun. Instead, take a 15-20-minute break under a tree or at a sheltered place and then have water.

People travelling in a car with HVAC enabled can drink water and munch on food, whenever they want. Bikers, on the other hand, should wear clothes with proper ventilation and also get a hydration bag which adds the convenience of drinking water.

Prevent Hazards

Another important thing to avoid filling the fuel to the brim, as recommended by the Government of India. This may be hazardous and can cause a fire. Try refilling the tank till 90% in the summer. In other words, keep some space in the fuel tank, during this season.

Other than the tyre pressure monitoring, one should also keep checking the tyres' treads and overall health. If there are any cracks or the tyre has worn out, then it should be fixed immediately.
