The Chennai-headquartered company Royal Enfield (RE) was seen testing the more powerful Himalayan ADV, called the Himalayan 650. This 650cc ADV is reportedly to have a twin-cylinder engine, plus it is speculated that it might be aggressively priced in India.
An Overview
The most notable offering on this bike, which can also be clearly seen in the image, is the air/oil-cooled, 648cc, twin-cylinder, petrol burner. This engine is likely to have the same power figures as other Royal Enfield 650cc bikes. If that comes out to be true then it should produce 47bhp and 52Nm of peak torque. It might be coupled with a five-speed gearbox.
However, the mapping and gear ratios are likely to be tweaked.
Another thing that is clearly visible is the upswept two-into-one exhaust setup, which is a bandwagon among the new-age RE bikes. In the RE 650 lineup, the launch-ready product, the Interceptor Bear 650 will be the first bile to have that type of exhaust setup, thereby making the Himalayan 650 incorporate the same setup.
Further, the new and more powerful Himalayan was seen housing dual front disc brakes, which is the first time for an indigenous bike. The suspension duties are handled by an inverted fork at the front that seems to be covered with damping adjusters atop.
It is also worth noting that the specifications of the pre-production bike may differ from the production-ready iteration. This 650cc ADV is also expected to have an adjustable fork.
Apart from the suspension setup, the spotted test mule of the Himalayan 650 seems to have a differently-sized wheel. It, however, doesn’t seem to be a 21-inch wheel. Reports suggest that this upcoming adventure bike is likely to be a road-focused bike; but, as seen on other ADV bikes, this ADV bike from Royal Enfield may run on 17 or 19-inch wheels.
Features
As seen on the Himalayan 450, the upcoming 650cc Himalayan is deemed to get a Tripper TFT display. Aside from that, the images also reveal a split-seat setup with a rear grab handle and integrated indicators into the taillights.
The images also show tank rails and the fuel tank seems to be reminiscent of the Himalayan 450's. But they might be tweaked to make the new iteration distinctive from its younger sibling.
Rivals
Once launched, the new Himalayan 650 ADV bike will take the likes of the Moto Morini X-Cape 650 and Kawasaki Versys 650, to name a few. We expect the bike to be slightly more affordable than its direct competitors.
