The Rolls Royce Spectre is the British luxury car manufacturer’s first-ever EV, not only in India but globally. It costs Rs 7.5 crore (ex-showroom) and has become India’s most expensive electric vehicle.

The carmaker has retained the Rolls Royce silhouette but to distinguish itself from other new-age Rolls Royce cars, it has its own cosmetic offerings. But if seen from afar, you might confuse it with the Rolls Royce Ghost. It is, however, a successor of the Rolls Royce Phantom.

Build & Design

Exterior

The Rolls Royce (RR) is a 2-door super coupe. It has the signature RR grille at the front with 22 LED lights that illuminate the grille. This model is also the first Rolls Royce to have the widest grille.

The Spirit of Ecstacy is slightly redesigned for better aerodynamics, plus the car itself has been designed by keeping the aerodynamics in mind which helps in efficiency and handling.

The Spectre is built on the platform that also underpins the Rolls Royce Cullinan (SUV) and Phantom (flagship saloon).

This British EV is also the first RR to stand on 23-inch alloy wheels; the biggest factory-fitted wheels on a Rolls Royce.

As for dimensions, the Spectre is 5475mm long, 2144mm wide, 1573mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 3210mm. This four-seater two-door coupe has also the longest doors that give more room for the passengers to ingress. It weighs nearly 2900 kilograms.

Interior

The interior of the Spectre is no different from any Rolls Royce. It has luxury written all over it. This time the roof and door pads both have starliner lights. As you know, Rolls Royce is sometimes known as the ‘Epitome of Luxury.’

To give the Rolls Royce touch, the Spectre’s longest door has an umbrella inside it, and those doors open in the opposite direction. These are called ‘Coach Doors.’

There is also a 12.1-inch fully digital instrument cluster, accompanied by a 10.1-inch integrated infotainment screen. As it may come across as a surprise, the Spectre EV is the first Rolls Royce to support wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

Performance

Anyone buying a Rolls Royce will never care much for performance figures, but for the rest of us, the Spectre has a top speed of 250 kmph and it can do 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. It has a dual motor all-wheel-drive setup with a power output of 584 HP and a torque output of 900 Nm.

Battery and Charging

The Spectre has a 102kWh battery pack which gives it a WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) claimed driving range of 530kms.

It supports 22KW AC charging which can charge it from 0 to 100% in 5 hours and 30 minutes. The Spectre also supports 195KW fast DC charging, and it can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 % in just 34 minutes. Another unit is a 50 KW DC charger that can charge from 10 to 80 % in 95 minutes.

Last, but not least, a 9-minute charge with a 195KW DC fast charger can give 100 km of driving range to Spectre, as claimed by the carmaker.

Competition! What’s that?

The Rolls Royce Spectre doesn’t have any direct competitors. It costs Rs 7.5 Crores (average ex-showroom) which is the most expensive EV in India. Plus, all of the luxury EV alternatives include the BMW iX, BMW i7, Mercedes-Benz EQS, Audi e-tron GT, and Porsche Taycan, to name a few. But all of them are priced under Rs 2 crore.
