To be in line with Porsche’s global plans, its Indian division has de-listed two models including the 718 Boxter and Cayman. This move marks the end of Porsche's internal combustion engine models, as electric Porsches are next in line.

In addition, Porsche India has confirmed that the bookings for these two models have stopped, but those who have booked before this will have their vehicles delivered.

Overview

The mid-engined two-seater Porsche 718 Boxter with the mid-cycle facelift was initially revealed in 2016. The previous iteration of the 718 was powered by a six-in-line engine, but it was later replaced by a four-cylinder engine.

However, after a few years, the top-spec Boxter Spyder and Cayman GT4 did receive a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine, which was tuned to produce 500bhp.

Furthermore, Porsche India brought the 718 Cayman GTS and Boxter GTS in 2022, while having an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.46 crore and Rs 1.49 crore, respectively. Those iterations had the aforementioned six-cylinder engine, but the India-spec had a detuned version that produced 400bhp. And, within that year, the German automaker also added 718 Cayman GT4 RS to its Indian portfolio, priced at Rs 2.54 crore (ex-showroom).

During the 718 model’s availability, the company dispatched a total of 489 units in the first half of 2024, and interestingly, Macan and Cayenne accounted for nearly 63% of Porsche India sales during that period.

Moving forward, the fifth generation Cayman and Boxter will be all-electric models only. They are expected to debut in 2025. Besides that, these EVs will join the same production line at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen plant where internal combustion-engined models are also produced.

It is also worth mentioning that the 718 EV models will have a dedicated electric sports car platform, which is reportedly to underpin future Audi and Lamborghini models.

Porsche India has confirmed that the bookings for the all-electric 718 models will commence in 2025.
