Interestingly, Ola started its scooter venture by acquiring a Dutch brand named Etergo and their product Appscooter which originally had a removable battery setup. Ola Electric modified the scooter with fixed batteries and launched it in the Indian market, thereby creating the Ola S1 series.

Now that Ola is the leading electric scooter brand in the country with a 41% market share. After creating a credible reputation, they are planning to bring back removable battery technology into their products.

This removable battery setup will be really helpful in this fast-paced environment if implemented correctly. That said, the users will be able to remove and swap the battery with a fully charged unit and will be ready to go. As mentioned earlier, OLA is working on an electric three-wheeler, and this removable battery might be present on their upcoming vehicles, making it easier for users to remove and take it to their desired places for charging.

Ola also plans to diversify its product portfolio in the future with cars, three-wheelers and electric bikes. It remains unknown what products amongst these will arrive and when, but it can safely be assumed that light vehicles like bikes, three-wheelers and scooters may come equipped with these removable batteries.
