Nissan has finally launched one of its most-anticipated vehicles, the X-Trail. For the record, the Nissan X-Trail was first launched in India in 2009 and was on sale till 2014. That was the second (2nd) generation which used to be locally assembled in our country.

But, now the X-Trail SUV has made a comeback to our shores via the CBU route, carrying an ex-showroom price of Rs 49.92 lakh. The current iteration is running in the fourth generation.

So, let’s see what offerings the India-bound X-Trail has.

A Bold Exterior

The 2024 Nissan X-Trail continues to look butch as its predecessors while maintaining the modern design language. So, upfront, the SUV has a split-headlight setup, keeping the LED DRLs on the top and main headlights below. Bridging the light on either side is the V-shaped chrome grille, which incorporates a black-coloured mesh grille. The lip of the front bumper can be seen with a skid plate.

In parallel, the side profile looks elegant and sleek, while retaining the imposing stance. This fully loaded single variant stands on a 20-inch alloy wheel, accompanied by thick body cladding, running throughout the SUV’s lower section.

On the other hand, the rear end also has an attractive set of lights, which have boomerang-shaped LED lamps with a 3D raindrop effect. If looked towards the roof, you will find an integrated spoiler for better aerodynamics, alongside a small shark-fin antenna. Besides that, you will find the ‘Nissan’ and ‘X-Trail’ badges and a chunky skid plate on the SUV’s lower bumper.

Dimensions

The Nissan X-Trail has a length of 4680mm, a width of 1840mm, a height of 1725mm, and it sits on a wheelbase of 2705mm. The ground clearance is rated 210, which is adequate for any terrain.

The kerb weight of this made-in-Japan Nissan X-Trail is 1676kg.

Interior and Features

It is worth mentioning that this SUV has a three-row seating layout, having a seating capacity for seven people. With the rear seats unfolded, the boot space measures 585 litres, which is expandable after folding down the seats of the rear rows.

Speaking of split seats, the second row has a 40:20:40 split, while the third last row has a 50:50 split.

In terms of features, the new X-Trail has an all-black cabin, which may not cater to every Indian customer, plus it has a fabric-made upholstery. At this price point, it is deemed that the customers would expect a leather or leatherette upholstery.

However, other on-board features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The former supports wireless- Android Auto and -Apple CarPlay. Other notable offerings include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone HVAC, paddle shifters, electric ORVMs, an electronic parking brake, and a centre armrest with underneath storage.

On the safety front, this SUV has 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers (front and rear), auto-hold, hill assist, automatic headlights, brake assist, tyre pressure monitor, and limited-slip differential, to name a few.

However, it would have been better if Nissan India had given ADAS, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable front seats, etc., especially at this price.

Powertrain

Nissan India’s flagship SUV has only one engine option, which includes a 12V mild-hybrid-based 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine is tuned to produce 161bhp at 4800rpm and 300Nm of peak torque at 2800rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox.

The India-spec X-Trail has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 13.7kmpl. It has a fuel tank capacity of 55 litres.

Pricing

Nissan India has launched this SUV in a single fully loaded variant. The 4th-generation X-Trail (codenamed T33) in India, which follows the CBU route, is priced at Rs 49.92 lakh, ex-showroom.

This vehicle takes the likes of the MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, and the Toyota Fortuner.
