After four years of its launch, the Land Rover Defender has received a few significant updates. There have been changes to the interior and powertrain of the SUV.
Land Rover has updated the Defender’s range globally for the upcoming year. There are interior changes, new engine options and additional colours as well. Petrol and diesel engines have been replaced by powerful units, plus the Plug-in hybrid petrol engine is also replaced.
The Land Rover Defender 130 comes equipped with a bench seat in the second row but now the brand has swapped the bench with a couple of captain seats to enhance the comfort. The brand says these middle-row seats are now equally comfortable as the front-row seats and have heating and ventilation amenities.
The previously offered D300 diesel engine has been replaced by the D350 engine which has been borrowed in-house from the Range Rover. This D350 mill, as the name suggests, produces 350hp and 700Nm of peak torque. According to the brand, this new engine will make “everything from overtaking to towing even more effortless”, it definitely should make a difference in performance because the previous unit churned out 50hp and 50Nm less than this.
The petrol powertrain gets a new 3-cylinder Plug-in hybrid engine for Defender P300e, producing 310hp, which will replace the existing 4-cylinder engine 2.0-litre unit.
Additionally, this British off-roader now gets a 5.0-litre V8 which produces 425hp, replacing the P400 Ingenium straight-six petrol unit.
Other than these additions, the Defender 110 now gets a new Sedona edition wearing red paintwork and black trim pack. (Image Below)
In India, the Land Rover Defender’s price starts at Rs 97 lakh and goes up to Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom). It currently competes with luxury SUVs such as Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 etc. The updated iteration is yet to launch in India.
