The Indian division of MG Motors is gearing up to add a third electric vehicle to its portfolio, which will be called the MG Windsor EV. This compact-size electric vehicle is already on sale in the international markets, but it goes by the Cloud EV name. This upcoming electric vehicle’s shape will remind you of the BYD e6.
However, it is worth noting that the international version (Cloud EV) may differ from the India-bound iteration (Windsor EV).
The Windsor EV is currently going through rigorous testing and the brand will strategically slot this vehicle between the MG Comet and MG ZS EV.
Expressing himself, Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India, stated, “We are excited to reveal the name of our upcoming CUV: MG Windsor. The Windsor Castle is renowned worldwide as a symbol of royalty and glory, which reflects in every detail of this CUV that exudes excellent craftsmanship, premiumness and, spaciousness. The advanced tech offerings and the futuristic aerodynamic exterior further add to the appeal of the car. The MG Windsor caters to consumers who seek the best of both worlds – the comfort of a sedan and the expanse of an SUV."
MG Windsor EV: Exterior Design and Dimensions
As for the Windsor EV’s exterior, this compact vehicle will stand out from the rest of the MG cars in India. It incorporates a prominent modern design language and houses a split light setup at the front. It has a connected LED DRL, which sits atop the main headlamps. Other expected exterior design elements include a broad air dam, and an integrated spoiler, among others.
Apart from that, the international version of the Windsor EV runs on an 18-inch alloy wheel, having a tyre profile of 215/55 R18.
The rest of the information on the exterior design remains to be seen.
As far as the measurements go, the Windsor EV will be larger in width and height than the MG ZS EV, measuring 1850mm and 1652mm, respectively. But, it will be slightly shorter in overall length than the ZS EV, as it will measure 4295mm. But to compensate for that, the Windsor car will boast a longer wheelbase than the ZS EV, as it will measure 2700mm, unlike the latter’s 2585mm wheelbase.
MG Windsor EV: Battery Pack
There is no information about the battery pack of the India-spec MG Windsor EV. However, for the record, the international version has two battery options: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh. And, both have a 132bhp front-axle-mounted electric motor. The former has a range of 360km, while the latter has a range of 460km. Please note that these are claimed figures by the company.
We expect the Indian version to get the larger 50.6kWh battery pack version.
Market Positioning
As mentioned before, MG India will position this electric vehicle between the ZS EV and Comet, therefore we can expect similar pricing as those two vehicles. Once launched, it will rival the Tata Nexon EV and other electric cars from this highly competitive segment in India.
