Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to bring the CNG avatar of their recently launched hatchback, the 2024 Swift. It’s the tradition for the brand to add greener fuel versions of their cars after introducing fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
The indigenous company recently launched the fourth generation Swift with a new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine. It makes a little less (82hp) power compared to the previous (88hp) 4-cylinder engine. Mating this mill with a CNG fuel supply will reduce the engine output by a margin but it may become one of the most efficient cars in the market.
The previous third-generation Swift CNG had a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 30.9km/kg which is, however, expected to go up this time because of the more efficient 3-cylinder engine (24kmpl claimed efficiency in petrol). The vehicle is currently available only in a petrol version and can either be had with a manual or AMT unit, depending on the variant. The CNG derivative, on the other hand, will most likely be offered only with the 5-speed manual transmission.
Once launched in India, the 2024 Maruti Swift CNG will lock horns with Tata Tiago CNG, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, Tata Punch CNG etc. We can expect Maruti Suzuki to price this efficient avatar of the hot-hatch aggressively. Since the base model of the petrol variant of the 2024 Swift carries a price tag of Rs 6.49 (ex-showroom), we can expect the CNG version's price to start under Rs 8 lakh.
