Price Hike Alert: Maruti Suzuki’s Swift and Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) recently hiked the prices of the Grand Vitara (SUV) and the Swift (hatchback). Selected variant(s) of these two models underwent a price hike.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited recently announced a price hike on the Grand Vitara and the Swift hatchback on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. 

Given the surged commodity prices, interlinked with inflation, the indigenous automaker announced its price hike plans regarding their vehicles. 

As a result, the prospects will now have to shell out Rs 19000 more for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara’s entry-level Sigma variant. This variant had an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.80 lakh, but, now, it has increased to Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas, the top variant’s ex-showroom price remains the same, which is at Rs 20.09 lakh. 

However, prices of the rest of the variants remain unchanged including Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. 

On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has received a price hike of up to Rs 25000. It is not clear which variants underwent a price hike. However, Maruti Suzuki’s bestselling hatchback had a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh and went up to Rs 9.03 lakh. These are ex-showroom prices. 

As for the variants, the Swift is offered in four variants- LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, which are available across CNG and petrol versions. For reference, the Swift CNG has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 7.90 lakh (pre-price-hike).

On the specifications front, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol unit, which is tuned to churn out 89bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. In parallel, the CNG version also uses the same petrol engine but has a decreased output of 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm of torque. The CNG version is limited to the five-speed manual unit, while the petrol version can be had in a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic (AMT) unit.

This Maruti Suzuki SUV has engine setups of two types: a mild-hybrid and a strong-hybrid.

Both setups have a 1.5-litre petrol engine in common but have different engine outputs. The mild-hybrid has a power of 102bhp and 137Nm of torque, whereas the strong-hybrid generates 114bhp and 122Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid has less power but more torque than the strong-hybrid version.   

The Grand Vitara CNG, on the other hand, generates 86.6bhp and 121.5Nm of torque. 

As for transmission, the mild-hybrid version is available with a five-speed manual and an optional six-speed torque converter, whereas, the strong-hybrid version is exclusive to the e-CVT gearbox. In parallel, the CNG version is limited to the five-speed manual transmission.
