Amidst the growing demand for Advanced Driver Assistance Sytems (ADAS) technology in India, several mainstream carmakers have already started offering that technology in the mass-market four-wheelers in our country. Those carmakers include Hyundai, Kia, Tata, MG, Mahindra, Toyota, etc. But this time, another carmaker is also planning to enter that pool and that is, Maruti Suzuki.

A Brief Overview

Having said that, Maruti Suzuki was recently spotted testing the Fronx, equipped with the ADAS suite. The lightly camouflaged test mule shown in the image seems to be an export-spec as the Japan-spec Fronx has the ADAS technology.

For those unfamiliar, Maruti Suzuki commenced exporting the Fronx crossover SUV to Japan. The Japanese version of the Fronx does get the ADAS technology, therefore, it’s highly likely that the test mule shown in the image was the export-spec iteration.

However, the overall design of the front grille on the Japan-spec Fronx looks identical to the India-spec. But, this export-spec’s grille accommodates a pair of parking sensors, complemented by a trapezoidal radar module in the centre.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Japan-spec Fronx is powered by a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, which is paired with a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional six-speed automatic transmission. It also gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD system, which is not offered on the Indian version.

Once the ADAS-equipped Fronx launches in India, it might hold the title of being the first Maruti Suzuki car in India with ADAS technology.

Other Developments

In other news, Maruti Suzuki is aiming to make a foray into the all-electric market in our country, as they are preparing to launch the production-ready eVX SUV at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, which will take place in January. The eVX electric SUV will rival the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE series, and Hyundai Creta, among others.
