Maruti Suzuki has filed a patent in India for a small electric car. This vehicle made its first public appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 as a concept car, named Suzuki eWX.

The Suzuki eWX is 3395mm long to qualify as a KEI car in the Japanese market. The patent image reveals the car’s tallboy design which looks inspired by its ICE sibling, the WagonR but it is even smaller than the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in terms of dimensions. Lastly, the Suzuki eWX has a width of 1475mm and a height of 1620mm.

A detailed look at the patent image reveals that the car has no conventional headlamps, no windshield wiper, and no visible B-pillar, and the wheels also have a completely packed design which wouldn’t be the case when this car comes into the production line.

While there isn’t any confirmation from the brand yet, we expect the eWX to have a single-motor setup and around 230 km range which should be adequate considering the size of the car, which is small. The brand is working on the eVX electric SUV (showcased at Auto Expo 2023) which may launch in the country by late 2025 and then the eWX should arrive after that.

The car will be based on the K-EV platform and will lock horns with the MG Comet, Tata Tiago EV, and Citroen eC3 once launched. The car will mostly target city commuters since it's really small in size and won’t have a long range, which may restrict the highway and long-distance usage.

Maruti Suzuki has a long list of ICE cars in India which dominate their respective segments. Since the entire world is transitioning towards EVs, they also want to build a diverse portfolio in this segment.
