People movers in India come in lots of different shapes and sizes. When it comes to intracity public transportation the most popular vehicles are three-wheelers. Today we will be taking a closer look at one such three-wheel people mover, named Mahindra Treo.
Mahindra Treo: Design
Mahindra Treo is a three-wheel electric rickshaw and has a very conventional design. There is a big windshield at the front with a wiper, the vehicle gets round headlamps and indicators providing it a nostalgic retro look. The Mahindra logo is placed between the two headlamps in between six stripes. The three-wheeler also has circular ORVMs, mounted at its A-pillar. The vehicle has half doors for the rear passenger compartment, making it a little safer than the E-rikshaws with no doors.
Mahindra Treo: Dimensions
The Mahindra Treo is 2769mm long, 1350mm wide, 1750mm tall and has a ground clearance of 142mm and a wheelbase of 2073 mm. This long wheelbase is possible because the wheels of a three-wheeler are mounted on extreme edges and that’s why these vehicles offer good cabin space despite being small in size.
Mahindra Treo: Specifications
The Mahindra Treo produces 8kW of power and 42Nm of torque from its AC induction motor and has a claimed top speed of 55kph. The three-wheeler has a 7.37kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 141km and a charging time of 3 hours and 50 minutes. The motor is IP 67 rated for dust and water resistance. The vehicle offers a gradability of 12.7 degrees.
The Mahindra Treo rolls on 12-inch steel wheels and gets hydraulic drum brakes on all three wheels. Handling the suspension duties here are a helical spring+dampener+hydraulic shock absorber at the front and a rigid axle with a leaf spring at the rear.
