The Mahindra Scorpio N has become a sensational brand product. The car has been selling like hotcakes and people love it for its massive road presence and versatile and powerful engines. To build on this huge success, a pickup version of the Scorpio N was spotted in a recent social media leak.
It is uncertain whether this pickup truck will be launched in India or just be manufactured here for global exports. Mahindra used to sell the Scorpio pickup in markets like Africa but it appeared briefly in the brand’s India lineup. The pickup truck market in India is very small and that might be a possible reason why Mahindra does not sell its trucks in India.
Lately, the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max have gained a cult following amongst offroading and touring enthusiasts. However, the frequent price cuts on the Hilux show that Toyota is also not getting the expected response from Indian consumers.

What is the Scorpio N Pickup?
The leaked image shows that the front and half of the side profile of the pickup is the same as the Scorpio N. It has a single-cabin design, which is different from Mahindra’s Global Pick-Up concept with a dual-cab layout. Other design elements such as the headlamps, fog lamps and alloy wheels of the test mule are the same as the Scorpio N SUV.

The Scorpio N pickup is expected to feature the same 2.2-litre diesel mill as its SUV counterpart. This workhorse churns out 175 hp of peak power and up to 400 Nm of peak torque on the SUV. To handle the transmission duties, the pickup is likely to be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Whether the car will have a petrol powertrain or not is not clear.

Conclusion
The Mahindra Scorpio N pickup is still in its early testing stage and its launch date is unknown. Mahindra may launch it in global markets like South Africa where they already have a huge market presence in the SUV segment.

If Mahindra ever plans to bring this vehicle to India, it might come in the commercial segment due to its large loading bay at the rear. If they ever plan a dual cab design variant, that might be able to challenge the duopoly of the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max. But we do not see any of this happening anytime soon.
