In 1972, Kinetic Engineering launched India's first moped bike, the Luna. It was equipped with a 2-stroke 49cc engine, which produced 2.2bhp and 4.4Nm of torque. It also benefited from pedals, as seen on a bicycle, so that you could ride it as a bicycle in case of no fuel.

The gasoline version of the Luna was an efficient and easy-to-ride moped bike with a decent load-carrying capacity that made it very popular. When this was at its peak, around 2,000 units of old Luna bikes were sold per day. However, it was discontinued in the early 2000s due to stricter emission norms, therefore it never returned since then. But now it has returned in a "green" avatar.

Kinetic E-Luna: Offerings

Now, Luna has made a comeback in the Indian market but unlike its predecessor, it has a prefix to its name, now called E-Luna, produced under Kinetic's electric division, Kinetic Green.

It has 16-inch rims with tube tyres, telescopic forks at the front, dual shock absorbers at the rear, and a combined braking system for safe braking, coupled with drum brakes on both ends.

Further, the E-Luna boasts a 4.5-inch display which comprises a speedometer, odometer, DTE(distance to empty), battery indicator, and a trip meter. Besides that, it has three riding modes and a USB charging port in the pillion seat's storage compartment. It also packs a 2 kWh non-removable lithium-ion battery under the rider’s seat, which can be fully charged in 3.5 hours using the included 10 Ampere charger.

The E-Luna has a 170mm ground clearance.

The motor propelling this iteration is a 2KW mid-mounted unit. According to the brand, the E-Luna can go up to 110 kilometres in 'Eco' mode on a full charge, but the real-life range depends on your riding style and riding modes. Top speed is 52 kmph.

Pricing and Competition

The Kinetic E-Luna has been launched at Rs 74999 (ex-showroom), which is more expensive than the starting price of the current moped-bike market leader, the TVS XL 100. But in the electric moped bike segment, the Kinetic E-Luna is priced below the Okinawa Dual 100 and Odysse Trot.
