Land Rover has now rejigged the line-up of the India-bound Defender SUV. Earlier, it had four powertrain options, out of which two options have been de-listed, including the V8 petrol engine and PHEV variants, therefore, only two powertrain options are available. The available options include 2.0-litre petrol and 3.0-litre diesel engines.
Besides that, the Land Rover Defender continues to offer three body styles - 90, 100 and 130. Due to rejig, the price list is also revised, as a result, its starting price is now at Rs 92.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 2.85 crore. These are ex-showroom figures, as of August 2024.
Overview
There is a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which is exclusive to the 110 body style in the X-Dynamic HSE trim. Yes, that’s right. It’s not available in the base 90 body style.
On the flip side, the 3.0-litre diesel engine is available with all three body styles and is offered in three trims: X-Dynamic HSE, X and Sedona Edition.
Due to all the rejig, the base price of the Defender has also slightly increased, but axing the top-end V8 petrol-based variants has massively slashed the top-end prices. However, it is worth noting that the recently introduced Defender Octa V8 is still available to order, but only limited units are allocated for the Indian market.
Some Land Rover dealerships in India have stated that only the most popular engines and variants have been retained. In addition to that, the Defender continues to be a completely built unit (CBU), making it unlike the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, which were recently localised.
Aside from that, there is news that the deliveries of the locally-assembled Range Rover Sport have also commenced from today, dated August 14, 2024.
