The Korean manufacturer Kia is planning to add another compact SUV to its Indian portfolio. This upcoming product is believed to be positioned between the Kia Sonet (sub-4m SUV) and the Seltos SUV.

The test mule that was spotted, rumoured to be called the ‘Clavis’, was heavily disguised. So, let’s read about the things that we know so far about this upcoming Kia car.

Overview

If looking at the pictures closely, the test mule may remind you of the Kia Sonet, however, the former has a more boxy shape. Industry reports suggest that it will be a stretched wheelbase version of the Sonet while maintaining a sub-four-metre length. In addition to that, it is expected to be wider. Therefore, these two stretched measurements could indicate more legroom, as well as, the shoulder room.

Moreover, it is expected to be taller than the Sonet which could indicate a better headroom.

Apart from that, this vehicle is believed to have a split headlamp setup and squared wheel arches.

On the features front, this new iteration is expected to be as well-equipped as the Kia Sonet. The expected features carried from the Sonet include LED lights (front and rear), a single-pane sunroof, powered windows, ambient lighting, an electrically adjustable driver seat, and ventilated front seats, among others.

For safety, it is likely to have six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, traction control, disc brakes, brake assist, and so on.

Powertrain

The information about the powertrains is still under wraps, but we expect it to have the same engine options as the Kia Sonet, which include a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. It is likely to get both manual and automatic transmissions.

Availability

As mentioned earlier, the rumours suggest that this elder sibling of the Kia Sonet could be named ‘Clavis’. More so, Kia India has yet to reveal the official name and other information, but this vehicle is expected to arrive in 2025.
