South Korean carmaker Kia is testing their upcoming electric vehicle rigorously on Indian soil. A spy shot of the MPV has emerged on the Internet which provides significant design details of the vehicle and also highlights the differences from its ICE counterpart.

All That We Know About Kia Carens EV

Like many other mass-market EVs, the Carens EV is also expected to borrow all its basics like the chassis and interior layout from its ICE counterpart. However, the vehicle will have some obvious design alterations like a closed-off front grille and aerodynamic set of alloy wheels.

The front fascia design is expected to be very similar to the Kia EV 9 which is set to launch on October 3 in the country. Other than this the Carens EV will have newly designed bumpers and it will get rid of the exhaust pipe.

The suspension setup is also expected to be different from the ICE model. This change is understandable because there will be a significant difference between the weight of the ICE setup and EV setup so the suspension has to be different.

As per Autocar India, the vehicle will most likely share most of its mechanicals with its cousin, the Creta EV which is expected to debut much earlier than the Carens EV. The ICE versions of the Carens and Creta have also been related since the car’s inception, so we can expect this to happen.

For those unaware, the Creta EV is expected to come equipped with a 45kWh battery pack and it will borrow its electric motor from the latest Hyundai Kona EV’s base model. Just like their ICE counterparts, the Creta EV and the Carens EV will be equipped with a front wheel drive system.

Kia already has the EV6 in India which did very good numbers for the brand despite being a niche product. Now they are bringing the EV9 on October 3 and the Carens EV which will come next year, diversifying the brand’s EV portfolio in the country.
