The Korean automobile manufacturer Kia has reported achieving cumulative sales of 1.5 lakh units of the Kia Carens since its India launch in February 2022.
The Indian division of the company states that the fashion of three-row MUVs has “revolutionised” in the country, and that too, after the debut of a feature-loaded budget-friendly MUV, the Carens, which has a starting price of Rs 10.52 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.67 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures, as of June 2024.
Expressing his opinion on this achievement, Mr Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales and Business Officer, Kia India, stated,“Carens has become a favourite among Indian families, offering them style and peace of mind on every journey. It now accounts for approximately 15% of our monthly domestic sales, and we are confident that its popularity will only grow in the coming years. We remain deeply committed to bringing innovative and high-quality vehicles to our customers and are grateful for their continuous support.”
Kia Carens: Bestselling Variants
According to Kia India, half of their customers prefer choosing the Carens with features like ventilated seats, drive modes, sunroof, connected car technology, and ambient lighting, to name a few. These features can be had in the mid and top variants of the Kia Carens.
Apart from that, the company declared that the petrol-powered variants emerged as a top choice- contributing a demand of 57%. On the other hand, the diesel variants account for 43% of demand.
In parallel, manual transmission emerges as a highly preferred choice, contributing 62% of demand.
Kia Carens: Features
The Kia Carens has a long list of features, as it offers a single-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, front-ventilated seats, a wireless charger, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, and a Bose-sourced audio system.
It also has electric one-touch folding second-row seats, auto HVAC, connected car technology, voice command, cruise control, keyless entry, auto-dimming IRVM, retractable tray and cup holders, etc,
On the safety front, the Kia Carens has parking sensors (front and rear), six airbags, brake assist, a tyre pressure monitor, a rear camera with guidelines, hill-assist, hill-descent control, and ABS with EBD.
Kia Carens: Powertrains
The Kia Carens has three engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated (NA) petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.
The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit (Smartstream) has an output of 113.42bhp at 6300rpm and 144Nm of peak torque at 4500rpm.
In parallel, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (Smartstream T-GDi) with an output of 157.81bhp at 5500rpm and 253Nm of torque between 1500-3500rpm.
Lastly, the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine (CRDi VGT) generates 114.41bhp at 4000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500-2750rpm.
The Kia Carens is available in both manual and automatic transmissions.
Kia Carens: Pricing
The Kia Carens is offered in six- and seven-seater layouts. The starting price of this MUV is Rs 10.52 lakh for the base variant, the Premium Petrol MT 7 STR, and goes up to Rs 19.67 lakh for the top variant, the X-Line Diesel AT 6 STR.
