There have been major developments in the automotive industry and that too, across the world. First, we came across the news that Ford is making its India comeback. Following that, now we know that Hyundai Motor Company and General Motors have partnered to set a new journey to develop ICE-based and clean-fuel-based vehicles (EVs and hydrogen). Additionally, these global OEMs are also likely to procure the raw materials for battery developments and other powertrain-related components.

Expressing herself on this new joint venture, Mary Barra, Chairman and CEO of GM, stated, "The partnership between the two companies has the potential to make vehicle development more efficient by driving greater scale and supporting disciplined capital allocation."

"GM and Hyundai have complementary strengths and talented teams. Our goal is to unlock the scale and creativity of both companies to deliver even more competitive vehicles to customers faster and more efficiently," she added.

In parallel, the Executive Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, Euisun Chang, also expressed his views by stating, “This partnership will enable Hyundai Motor and GM to evaluate opportunities to enhance competitiveness in key markets and vehicle segments, as well as drive cost efficiencies and provide stronger customer value through our combined expertise and innovative technologies.”

As far as India operations are concerned, General Motors halted its operations including manufacturing in India in 2017, whereas Hyundai Motors in India is steady and reaching greater heights.
