The indigenous automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors, recently extended their EV lineup with the Tata Punch EV. This electric sub-compact crossover SUV sits above the Tata Tiago EV and below the Tata Nexon EV.
Just so you know, Tata’s electric vehicles can also be had in gasoline and CNG. That said, the carmaker has covered all types of markets in India.
So, without wasting time, let’s jump to the offerings of the 2024 Tata Punch EV.
BUILD, DESIGN & CAPACITY
For starters, this electric sub-compact SUV is based on Tata’s brand-new Gen-2 architecture called ‘Acti.ev’ (pronounced active). As per reports, this platform will also underpin the upcoming TATA EVs such as Curvv, Harrier, etc.
The Tata Punch’s full-bonnet LED DRLs and split LED headlamps look very similar to the 2024 Nexon facelift. It might become difficult for a layman to distinguish between these two vehicles, as far as the front design is concerned. All-in-all, the new-age Tata cars look close to their concept vehicles.
However, the taillights of the Tata Punch EV look identical to the regular Tata Punch.
Furthermore, it gets a 190mm ground clearance and 350mm water wading capacity. Speaking of capacity, the Tata Punch EV is also the first-ever homegrown EV to get a 14-litre frunk (front trunk) along with a 366-litre boot space.
PERFORMANCE
There are 2 variants offered and both have different power outputs, one is called Punch EV and the other is called Punch EV LR (long-range).
The standard version of the Punch EV will produce 80.4bhp of peak power and 114Nm of torque, while the long-range models will produce 120.6bhp and 190Nm of peak torque.
As for the sprint, the long-range version of the Tata Punch can do 0 to 100 kmph in 9.5 seconds, while its standard version will take 13.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph.
BATTERY & CHARGING
The standard variant is equipped with a 25kWh battery, having a claimed range of 315kms, whereas the long-range variant gets a 35kWh battery capacity with a claimed range of 421kms.
In addition, it is worth noting that the real-world range will most probably vary.
Both the variants support charging options of 3.3kW and 7.2kW wall box AC charging and up to 50kW DC fast charging which can charge both variants from 10 to 80 % in just 56 minutes.
The 3.3kW AC charger is provided with the car; customers can buy the 7.2KW charger as an accessory.
FEATURES AND SAFETY
The Tata Punch EV has a long list of new-age features. Some of the features can be had in the 2024 Tata Nexon facelift.
The top-most variant of the Punch EV gets ventilated front seats and dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrument cluster. It also packs a wireless charger, sunroof, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, etc.
On the other hand, the lower variants get a 7-inch infotainment screen.
The top variants of the Punch EV boast a 4-speaker and 2-tweeter Harman-sourced infotainment system. This unit supports wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
The newly-designed steering wheel has an illuminated TATA logo. The steering wheel’s design itself slightly resembles the steering wheels found in new-age JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) cars. Further, the Punch EV’s new steering wheel has buttons for cruise control, infotainment unit, voice control, and phone control.
And, right behind the steering wheel are the paddle shifters to control the regenerative braking.
On the safety front, the 2024 Punch EV gets six airbags, ABS, ESC, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitor, and many more safety features, as well.
