The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV is one of the most anticipated cars in India. Once launched, it will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv. These two are direct rivals, as far as the shape, size and specifications are concerned.
Further, this upcoming Citroen car will mark its India debut on August 2, 2024. The French automobile manufacturer has been dropping multiple video teasers sporadically on social media. Now, Citroen India has released a new promotional film, which gives us a sneak peek at more offerings that seem to be exclusive to the Basalt Coupe SUV.
Citroen Basalt: New Details
The new promotional video confirms three significant updates that are unlike the C3 Aircross. For instance, the Basalt will incorporate electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear power window buttons on the rear doors, and rear AC vents on the backside of the front centre console.
In contrast, the Citroen C3 Aircross accommodates rear window buttons atop the front centre console, which didn’t serve much of a purpose as well as convenience to the rear passenger(s). Hence, repositioning the rear window buttons to the conventional position in the Basalt is a very thoughtful call.
Furthermore, the five-seater version of the C3 Aircross misses out on rear AC vents, while its seven-seater version has tacky roof-mounted AC vents. However, the floor-mounted AC vent looks more appealing to the eyes and well well-integrated.
More so, the electrically retractable ORVMs are also a very thoughtful addition, which serves the purpose really well, as it can help the driver to get out of narrow spaces, while conveniently closing the ORVMs with a touch of a button.
However, the rest of the confirmed features include an auto HVAC, a front armrest with storage, a touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument cluster, a connected car technology, a multi-function steering wheel, voice command, etc.
Citroen Basalt: Powertrains
There are no confirmed details about this. But we believe that the Citroen Basalt will have a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the C3 Aircross. This engine is tuned to produce 110bhp and 205Nm of peak torque. The power will be transferred to the front wheels via a standard six-speed manual and an optional six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Citroen Basalt: Pricing
The Citroen Basalt is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. Its direct rival will be the Tata Curvv. However, the alternatives from this price bracket include the Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder, to name a few.
