Citroen India is India’s first multinational car manufacturing company to export locally built units of an electric iteration, debuting with the Citroen e-C3. It was April 11, 2024, when the French automobile manufacturer commenced exporting the first 500 units of the electric sub-four-metre crossover SUV from Chennai’s Kamarajar Port to Indonesia.
Citroen still has ambitious plans to go full electric and has aligned its goal with several carmakers, albeit some car manufacturers have also opposed their EV plans.

As for Citroen, this car manufacturer comes under the Stellantis Group. This group was formed in 2020. The ‘Stellantis’ is derived from a Latin word, ‘Stello’, which means ‘to brighten with stars.’ Further, the Stellantis Group was formed by merging the PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Jeep and Citroen are the only current subsidiaries from the Stellantis Group that operate in India.
Here’s what the CEO and MD of Stellantis India, Aditya Jairaj, stated, “India is not only a strategic market but also a major sourcing hub for vehicles, components, and mobility technologies within the Stellantis group.
