The French automaker Citroen has finally launched its first highly anticipated coupe SUV, the Citroen Basalt. The SUV comes with a distinct design and versatile engine options, plus it's feature-loaded and has an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 7.99 lakh. This introductory price is applicable till October 31, 2024.
Citroen Basalt: Build and Design
The Basalt is based on the same platform as the Citroen C3 Aircross and both these cars also have a similar-looking front fascia. Besides that, the Basalt looks miles apart from the C3 Aircross with its unique side and rear profiles, thanks to the sloping roofline.
The Basalt also houses new stylish-looking alloy wheels, newly designed LED taillamps and a dual-tone rear bumper. The Citroen Basalt has five colour options: Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red.
It is worth noting that Polar White and Garnet Red have a contrasting black roof.
Citroen Basalt: Interior and Design
The Basalt’s similarities with the C3 Aircross continue in the cabin, especially the dashboard's layout. Interestingly, this coupe SUV also gets adjustable under-thigh support for rear passengers. Yes, you read that right! This segment-first feature has enhanced the back-seat experience.
It also gets contoured rear headrests for added comfort. Even with its sloping roof and coupe design, the car offers a generous boot space of 470 litres, which is on par with most compact SUVs available in the market.
Citroen Basalt: Features
The Basalt is also loaded with features like a 10.2-inch touch infotainment screen with wireless support of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control AC, rear AC vents, a fully digital instrument cluster, and 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The SUV also has six airbags, ESC (electronic stability control), a rear camera and a TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), which ensure a safe driving experience.
Citroen Basalt: Performance
Citroen Basalt is offered in two engine options - a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol burner, releasing 82hp and 115Nm of torque and is exclusively mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
In parallel, the other engine is also a 1.2-litre unit but is turbocharged, which pumps out 110hp and 190Nm of torque via a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same turbo-petrol engine with an optional 6-speed torque converter increases the torque to 205Nm.
Citroen Basalt: Pricing and Competition
With an attractive starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Citroen Basalt locks horns with many cars like the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, etc.
The Citroen Basalt’s introductory pricing offer makes it the most affordable SUV or coupe SUV (technically) among its competitors.
