The French automobile manufacturer Bugatti recently paid tribute to one of their iconic cars, the Bugatti Type 55, by unveiling a one-of-a-kind Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘55. This project vehicle is part of Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program.
For a quick reference, the Bugatti Type 55 was designed by Ettore Bugatti’s (Founder of Bugatti) son, Jean Bugatti. In fact, only 38 units were built of this model and none looked like Jean Buggati’s Type 55 vehicle, which had a dual-tone exterior paint in black and yellow.
Having said that, the special edition of the Chiron Super Sport ‘55 also has the same dual-tone colour scheme as its iconic vehicle.
The former’s front fascia has a black centreline on the bonnet and black graphics on the front fenders. Then there are big panels on the mid and rear body, finished in gloss black. The Chiron Super Sport 55 1 of 1 also has other design elements, such as a hand-painted ‘55’ pattern that starts from the headlights, alongside black wheels with centre caps in yellow and a ‘55 1 of 1’ badge embossed beneath the rear wing.
The dual-tone colour scheme also continues inside this exclusive Chiron. The black Alcantara upholstery has contrast inserts in yellow, which can be found on the headrests, door panels, and other parts of the cockpit.
Apart from that, there are also carbon fibre inserts and special sill plates with embossed autographs of Jean Bugatti.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘55 ‘1 of 1’: Other Highlights
This hypercar is powered by the iconic 8.0-litre W16 quad-turbo-petrol engine, which produces an impressive power of 1556bhp and torque of 1600Nm. The power is channelled to all wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This limited-run Bugatti Chiron is claimed to have a top speed of 440km/h.
Commenting on this occasion, Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti Automobiles, stated, “At Bugatti, our commitment to bespoke craftsmanship is epitomised by our Sur Mesure program. Our team perfectly manages to reinterpret our brand's iconic classic cars, creatively blending the past with a contemporary approach and innovative techniques. Our latest commission, inspired by the timeless elegance of Jean Bugatti's iconic black and yellow Type 55 Super Sport, pays homage to a car that represents a milestone in the history of the brand.”
He also added, “The ‘55 1 of 1’ infuses the spirit of one of Bugatti's most pioneering models and is a testament to the fact that Jean's vision not only continues to shape our entire design and engineering ethos to this day but also inspires our customers worldwide, and in this case in the United Arab Emirates.”
