British classic retro motorcycle manufacturer BSA is all set to launch its iconic Gold Star in India on August 15, 2024, which also happens to be Indian Independence Day. However, it is essentially an Indian product as Mahindra now owns Classic Legends, the parent company of the BSA and a few other brands.

BSA Gold Star Design

The motorcycle follows a typical retro design language with its circular, headlights, indicators, rearview mirrors, and twin-pod instrument dials. Further, this offering also has chrome finishing on the exhaust, mudguards and other panels that enhance the retro appeal of the product.

BSA Gold Star Engine

The Gold Star is powered by a single-cylinder 652cc liquid-cooled mill, which churns out 45hp at 6500rpm and 55Nm at 4000rpm and is coupled with a five-speed gearbox.

BSA Gold Star Suspension, Braking and Wheels

The motorcycle runs on 18-inch spoke wheels on the front end and 17-inch spoke wheels on the rear end. The suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear with the freedom of 5-step preload adjustment.

The braking duties are taken care of by the single 320mm floating disc, with a Brembo twin-piston floating calliper at the front and a single 255mm disc with a Brembo single-piston floating calliper at the rear. The motorcycle also gets dual-channel ABS for enhanced safety while riding.

BSA Gold Star’s Other Noteworthy Elements

The bike has a seat height of 780mm, a wheelbase of 1425mm, a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres and a claimed fuel consumption figure of 4.001 litre/100km, which means the motorcycle should return around 25kmpl.

BSA Gold Star’s Competition in India

The BSA Gold Star 650 will lock horns with the 650cc bikes in India, especially the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 upon its India arrival. However, the former has a single-cylinder mill, whereas the latter has a twin-cylinder unit. Still, they are very similar, in terms of aesthetics and power figures, hence rivalry is expected.

BSA Gold Star Expected India Pricing

In the UK, the BSA Gold Star is priced between £6400 to £7000 which is very close to the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650’s pricing of £6400 to £6900. This gives us hope that BSA will price the Gold Star similar to that of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which starts from Rs 3.03 lakh.
