The Japanese two-wheeler company Yamaha is one of the biggest players, as far as performance bikes are concerned. They hold 4% of India’s motorcycle market. In December 2023, Yamaha showcased the MT-03 in the 300cc segment. In terms of performance, this street fighter by Yamaha is a direct competitor of the KTM Duke 390 and the newly launched Pulsar NS400.

However, the Pulsar NS400Z has shaken the market with its aggressive introductory price of Rs 1,85,000, whereas the Yamaha MT-03 has an introductory price of Rs 4,59,900. Both are ex-showroom figures.

The 373-cc engine powers the Pulsar's new iteration, while the 321-cc engine powers the new Yamaha MT-03. Despite their many similarities, we cannot compare these two bikes because the latter prioritizes performance.

Yamaha MT-03: Looks and Design

As seen on the Yamaha MT-01 and R3, this bike also looks aggressive and follows the sharp-cut design pattern. There is a single LED headlight, dual LED DRLs, LED indicators, and a 14-litre muscular-looking fuel tank. The bike stands on a 37mm upside-down front fork for a smooth riding experience.

Yamaha is known for its ergonomic riding positions. Thanks to the compact seat height of 780mm, it features a wide upper section, alongside a sculpted knee area and high-mounted handlebars.

Yamaha MT-03: Performance and Features

This bike comes with a 321-cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine. The engine generates 42PS at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm of torque at 9,000rpm. Like any other Yamaha bike, the MT-03 is also expected to give a solid feel, a reliable ride, and an enjoyable riding experience.

We wish that some features could have been offered at this price point, such as traction control and a quick shifter. However, the MT-03's instrument cluster displays all the important information, such as gear position, fuel capacity, real-time, and average fuel economy. Riders can also check the temperature, clock, oil change indicator, and trip meter.

This bike is completely made for performance-oriented riders, it lacks soft features but has a high-performance engine and raw power. So, if you are someone who doesn't mind having limited new-age features but wants performance, the Yamaha MT-03 should be added to your wishlist.
