The Indian division of the Global NCAP (or GNCAP), called the Bharat NCAP, has rolled out new safety-rated QR code stickers for all crash-tested vehicles by the new Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP).

Brief Overview

As per the Government of India’s new crash testing branch, these new stickers will ensure that Indian patrons make an informed decision while buying any vehicle. The QR-based stickers will give all the safety-related information about the concerned, including the ratings.

Each of the stickers will follow the same format or layout, which will include the manufacturer’s name, vehicle name, and date of crash testing along with adult- and child-occupant protections.

And, the vehicles will these stickers will include cars and SUVs in India. This move is part of the ‘Safer Cars for India’ campaign.

Moreover, since the inception of the Bharat NCAP in October 2023, only selected vehicles have undergone the crash test at the BNCAP. And, those vehicles were already given a five-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. Those crash-tested iterations were Tata cars, namely the Nexon, Nexon EV, Harrier, and Safari.

All of these vehicles were awarded a five-star rating by the Indian crash test department, as far as adult- and child-occupant protection is concerned. In addition to that, there are also rumours that Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai had given their SUVs for crash testing to the BNCAP, but their results haven’t made it to the public so far.
