For the introduction, you should know that Acura is a luxury and performance division of Honda, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo. Moreover, Acura is a subsidiary of American Honda Motor Company. The car manufacturer has plans to jump to the EV market, directly. Unlike Toyota, who is betting on hybrids while transitioning to EVs- Acura won’t follow the same.
Additionally, Acura has tied with General Motors (GM) to make a foray into the EV segment. The first product under their collaboration was the 2024 Acura ZDX. It is a premium mid-size performance SUV, based on the GM BEV3 EV platform that uses Ultium battery technology. The same architecture will underpin the upcoming Acura ADX. It will be the entry-level crossover SUV in Acura’s lineup.
The ZDX is Acura’s first EV, while the ADX will be Acura’s second in line. Plus these vehicles will only be sold in the US. If you ask me about the India launch- there is no news if Acura will come to India.
Acura ADX: Things We Know So Far
As per sources, the Japanese carmaker will most likely launch the Acura ADX in 2024. Within the same year, it will launch the Acura ZDX. It might be better if Acura plans to launch both cars at the same time, as it would cater to all types of buyers who want to enter the electric SUV segment.
Acura ADX: Expected Market Positioning
Given the shape and size of the Acura ADX, it will be positioned below the Acura ZDX. The five-seat Acura ADX will directly compete with the Tesla Model Y. For your reference, the Tesla Model Y’s price starts from around $54,000. The official price list of the Acura ADX will be declared once launched.
