British automaker Mini has launched the latest version of their immensely desirable hatchback in India, dubbed the Cooper S. Only the 3-door iteration of this hot hatch has arrived in the country. However, the brand also sells a 5-door version overseas. This is the last ICE Mini Cooper S, as the brand will move to all-electric.
Mini Cooper S: Build and Design
The vehicle retains its iconic design and exterior styling with Mini's signature circular headlamps but it is now accompanied by a bigger octagonal grille with a new pattern and the 'S' badge. The vehicle has a rather clean-looking side profile with black door handles which look attractive, and have a contrasting look with light colour treatments.
The rear of the hatchback looks attractive with newly designed triangular LED taillamps, now connected with a glossy black panel, housing the Cooper branding.
Mini Cooper S: Interior and Features
The interior of the Cooper S has also received an overhaul, the instrumentation and infotainment have been embedded in one gigantic circular screen, which is centrally mounted on the dashboard. The AC vents are placed on either side of the screen and the physical control toggle switches are placed below the screen.
The touchscreen here is a 9.4-inch round Samsung-sourced OLED panel, powered by Mini’s in-house Android-based software. The hatch also flaunts its leather-free interior, which contributes to sustainability.
Other noteworthy features of the hatchback include a heads-up display, electrically adjustable front seats, a massage function for the driver’s seat, ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon sound system, six airbags, an electronic parking brake, a Level 1 ADAS suite, and more.
Mini Cooper S: Performance
The hatchback is powered by the same four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo petrol burner which now churns out 204hp and 300Nm, instead of the earlier model’s 178hp and 280Nm. All this power is put down to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
All thanks to its compact build and these power figures, the Cooper S is now claimed to go from 0 to 100kph in just 6.6 seconds.
Mini Cooper S: Pricing and Availability
The Mini Cooper S has been launched in India with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 44.90 lakh. The vehicle has no real competition because there is no other premium hatchback like this, especially in our country. The brand claims, the deliveries will begin in September 2024.
