The launch date of Mahindra’s most anticipated vehicle, the Thar 5-door is just a few months away. The latest reports confirm that the Thar will have segment-first Level-2 ADAS and sunroof.
If these reports are true, which is very likely, the Thar 5-door will become Mahindra’s third vehicle to offer these two modern features. The upcoming five-door Thar will also become India’s first body-on-frame SUV to have a full panoramic sunroof.
Expected Features and Launch Date of Mahindra Thar 5-door
There might be a single-pane sunroof on the mid-trims of the SUV, but the top-end trim will have a dual-pane sunroof. Mahindra recently launched the XUV 3XO with ADAS components, borrowed from the XUV 700. They might do the same with this SUV, too, and it’ll have features like lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, etc.
Other than the sunroof and ADAS, this homegrown off-roader is expected to have a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrumentation display, all LED lights, and variant-wise alloy wheels.
There will also be three different engine options available. The base variants may get the 1.5-litre diesel mill, coupled with a rear wheel drive only setup to offer cut-throat pricing. However, the higher variants will have the 2.2-litre diesel and the 2.0 petrol burner with a 4X4 setup for better on- and off-road performance.
Some Mahindra dealers have started the bookings of the Thar Armada without any official confirmation from the brand. Once launched, the off-roading SUV will continue to lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha 5-door.
