Force Motors has finally unveiled the much-awaited 5-door Gurkha in the Indian market. Along with an additional 2 doors and an extra row of seats, the SUV now gets a massive bump in power and many additional features, unlike its predecessor. The refreshed iteration will also be available in 3-door, alongside the new 5-door model. Bookings for both these cars have been started at the Force dealerships for Rs 25,000 and deliveries will begin from May 2024, onwards.
Force Gurkha 5 Door: Build and Exterior Design
The front fascia of the SUV remains more or less the same with a few minor tweaks. The front grille’s design has been revised and continues to house the 'Gurkha' nameplate. The boxy and angular look of the SUV remains the same as before, giving it a muscular stance. The front and rear bumpers are as big and bold as before and wheel arches also appear bigger for an enhanced rugged off-road stance. The Gurkha has a luggage carrier on the roof and packs a snorkel near the right A-pillar. The snorkel produces the turbocharger's whistle.
The vehicle has 5-spoke 18-inch, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and round LED headlamps with circular dotted LED DRLs and it gets LED fog lamps with a cornering function.
At the rear, the SUV continues to get the tailgate-mounted spare wheel, vertically laid out tail lights, mounted ladder and a tow hook. Dimensions of the new Gurkha are 4390mm long, 1865mm wide, and 2296mm tall with a wheelbase of 2825mm. The 2024 Gurkha's ground clearance is 233mm.
Force Gurkha 5 Door: Interior and Features
The 5-door Gurkha now gets an upgraded 9-inch Nippon-sourced touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Apart from this, the vehicle also gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering, an auto start-stop system, and now gets an electric shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive selector instead of that old-school low-range gear lever.
Force Gurkha 5 Door: Performance
The biggest update this SUV has received is a remapped 2.6-litre diesel burner. This Mercedes-sourced engine was there before, but it now churns out 138hp and 320Nm. The predecessor used to generate 90bhp and 320Nm of torque from the same engine. This powerhouse is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and puts down all its power via a low-range transfer case. For better off-roading, the Gurkha retains its mechanical locking differentials on both axles.
